I was inspired by an image I saw on this site called "Rolling toward infinity" by hannafate. Not sure if I can link to it in this submission dialog box.
Went to a hobby shop and found a plastic sheet with some raised lines on it.
Set the sheet on a table and a marble on the sheet.
Lit it from the side with a booklight to make the raised lines stand out. Used a black piece of paper as a hood over the booklight to keep stray light from reflecting off the ceiling and walls.
Shot an 8 second exposure while painting the marble with a laser pointer. Varied the amount of time I played the laser on it to vary the brightness of the marble and its reflection.
Adjusted levels to make the background pure black.
Cloned out some red reflections on the lines and glare on the marble.
Rotated and cropped.
