I used a white piece of paper taped on the wall for a background. Then I put my SB-600 Speedlight to the front right ot the light bulb and aimed it at the wall so that it lit the left side of the bulb too.

I like this composition..it is simple, however, the lightbulb fading into the background gives it a very beautiful feel with the subletly of shading; nothing too harsh, just very soft and effective.
