Maybe it's a bit cheesy, but as soon as I saw the word separation, I thought egg! I figured it was something uncommon, but my just my luck... others will have the same idea. :)
I shot this in my light cube, and used my 70-300mm lens on macro. It took 7 eggs until we got one we liked... the eggs were then used to make a yummy french toast dinner! :)
Technical stuff:
I just did selective color to show more feeling of the sepration.
I tinkered with the contrast and brightness,
cropped a tad, resized, and added a border.

This was my first thought too....but then I said, "if it's my first thought, then I bet it will be common". You made it work though...good job. It would score higher if it were more original.
