Seagulls along the edge of Towne Lake in McKinney TX. I was experimenting with DOF in order to emphasize the "separation" aspect of this one gull being separated from the others on the bank. I think it's fairly effective. I hope the voters think so too! ;o)
Shot with my rebel using the Canon 75-300 f4-5.6 IS USM lens, Cropped, first converted to b/w then to Platinum using the PowerRetouche Silver filter, contrast adjustments, dodging/burning, PowerRetouche's sharpening filter, resized for web.

this meets the challenge, The bird you were trying to have in focus is very crisp. Your DOF vanished nicely. I also feel that B&W works well here. The biggest complaint I have it that the front bird realy bothers me. I it looks bad out ot focus. I do however understand why it was done. Without the front bird you would loose the feeling of separation.. I don't know what advice to give to improve this, but I don't like the front bird..Othwise very nice shot 6
I couldn't agree less with this comment. The front bird that is out of focus is what defines this picture. I think it is a brilliant capture. well thought out. If I was around when this hit the challenge I would have given it a 10.
