Yes, this is my last [controlled] photo ever. Quite fitting I think.
It is intended to depict the last moments of life slipping away.
Enjoy it while it's still inside you.

DQ note This image was disqualified from the Self Portrait III challenge (it was scoring in the 7s, so thanks to those who voted it so highly and rightfully assumed it legal). Thanks also to those who spent time commenting - sorry that they too are lost. I have saved a screen grab of the comments.
> DQ reason: time on camera about 8 hours in future
It seems the person who requested it thought it was illegally edited. In fact the date of my camera had inexplicably changed despite being meticulous about setting this when I first bought it (see this thread). I never noticed because when checking (normally in daytime), it showed the right date.
Let it be a lesson to anyone who might imagine there is ANY mitigating circumstance regarding EXIF data.
No malice at all to the requester - I would have needed to submit proof in the end anyway.
Well, such a simple thing to go wrong, but with such drastic consequences. I leave a lovely wife and two adorable children...
First: this is a great image and I feel terrible about that time thing. Ay one time I did a shot and there it was for unknown reason it was in am instead of pm. Lucky I was uable to reset and reshoot.
Anyway, in my first pass I used place holder 7 for this lovely image and then I wondered where it went.
Now, my friend, there is a lot of talent in you. The fact that you are so critical with your presentations makes you a good candidate to express your art even bending the medium of photography to suit your will. You run away from these images yet realizing there is no other way to do them. Yes, I can understand the attitude towards the digital composite, but when you do an effect in the camera, you are the artist of that creation. All artwork is controlled by the artist. So you see, you are an artist but you don't want to admit to it. Remember, you can practice both styles. Look at Dali, and Picaso. They both knew how to paint in the traditional manner and in the modern. I beg you to reconsider and do bring out those images and concepts that are made of dreams. I know, there is a lot of work in you.
Oh this is where it's gone.. I looked at this photo in the challenge and was so sure it would ribbon and then I couldn't find it anymore.
This is just supercreative and amazing. What a crying shame it didn't get to ribbon in this challenge. Extremely awesome.
The shot was relatively simple, apart from not being able to stay still. I focused on myself with light on, then switched to manual. Then I lay down in the same position, pressed release with remote cable while wafting a colour-changing LED torch to and fro, in and out of my mouth.
Very little post-processing other than a little dodge + burn, some levels adjustment and very slight noise reduction.
wouldn't it have been impossible for you to submit it in time if it had been taken 8 hours after the deadline? To me that makes it obvious that it was just a camera glitch. That's too bad.
That is truly sad. I am one of those who voted this photo highly as I felt it met the requirements of the challenge and was a great photo. I did read a threat about the date automatically changing and immediately checked mine. It is indeed sad that you were DQ for this reason.
So how's the 'breath' done? A print? Projection? The reflections make me think the latter. The only thing I would have changed, or done slightly differently, would have been to find some way to have at least one 'breath' appearing in front of your face, perhaps looping up and round to leave image left bottom. No idea how that would be achieved (glass perhaps?). Stunning in both conception and execution Jon.
