The finger gets a little "dirty" when doing this (see dirt on finger tip). Yes, it's hot but you can hold in the flame for a second without injury. I would not advise going longer! The key is slowly passing through the flame and timing the shutter to catch it. The B&W helps with the theme of pain. I guess I could get dinged for not directly showing the "emotion" of pain....rather it's implied. Oh weel.
