(added after challenge)
This shot did much better than I ever thought it would (understatement?) and I wasn't sure why till I started this thread and recieved an awesome critique by bear_music. Thanks to all for their votes and comments, especially to those that commented in the thread!

Ron you are too cool! Congratulations on your red. I did not comment bit I did vote high this impressive 3 image. Way to go and keep the cool images coming.
Beautiful shot. One technical correction. What you are seeing is not steam, which is invisible. You are seeing steam that condensed as minute water droplets. Good thing it did or your shot would not be as great as it was. Congratulations!
Congratulations on a very much deserved ribbon. This was truly one of the great photos in this competition and one of my personal favorites. The very best to you sir, and may you enjoy continued success.
DUDE!!!! Awesome! Congratulations man on your first ribbon. It will make a nice splash of color on your profile page. :-) I'm sure there will be more to come in the future. Nice job Dude, well deserved, great shot, and cool that you did it with one of your favorite subjects to shoot, in fact, toocool ! :-) When I see ya next, I'll have to give you a big congratulatory PUNCH !
OMG I can't believe I finally did it! Thank you all for voting on it. Couple of quick notes:
First off Imagineer. What you are seeing is not the polution coming out of the stack. It is steam. The particulates that come out of the stacks are invisible most of the time. Not to say that there aren't bad things coming out, just most of the time you can't see them. When the temps drop below 20 degrees F. a wonderful thing happens. You get the most awesome steam formations coming out of them!
BradP. I didn't do much to the shot at all. Simple levels and curves to make the sky dark again. Boosted the red saturation a little to make the lights pop (also turned the steam a little yellowish but had to live with it with the time I had to process it.) Sharpend slightly, cropped, resized sharpened again to taste. That's all.
Personal note: I'm truly amazed that this shot scored as high as it did. I took this shot for myself with the challenge theme in mind. The Board of Water and Light towers (winkin' blinkin' and nod) are the tallest things in boring old Lansing MI and look really cool at night when it's colder then ______ out. I don't really understand why it did so well. Not that I'm complaining! Guess I gotta stand by my oft forgotten rule of thumb. Shoot for yourself and fit it into the challenge when it applies.
Thanks again to all.

I knew what you meant when you said you were holding your breath, Ron. I was probably blue at the time myself! Many congrats on your first ribbon, one of my favorites in the challenge.
Very unique and interesting shot. Well seen. I'll be looking at the info on this as I'm curious as to the camera & exposure specifics. Well done. ((8))
