Congrats Robert,
This is perhaps one of the nicest shots I have seen of Roses in a very long time. The lighting & detail are perfect. Interesting desaturating it a bit - perhaps made it more natural instead of boosting it for the wow factor.
Thanks a lot for the kind votes and comments. It did better than I expected. When I entered it, I had my monitor set too dark and to me the background was pure black. After I adjusted my monitor I realized it wasn't, and that you could see that fold in the velvet background I was too lazy to iron out. At least now I'm calibrated.
Look at me... Stuck between two (uggh) flower shots with some smoke stacks... Just kidding. This was my favorite of the competition and truly think you should did better than me. Not giving up my red though! ;-) Congrats on the first ribbon. We gotta full house! Three virgin ribbon winners! Kudos!

Very delicate, excellent lighting and a perfect composition for something that is generally looked down on photographically. One of my top ten favorites here. ((10))
I believe this will be a ribbon shot. Though I consider myself a beginner (photography wise), I am of the opinion that this is the most technically perfect shot of the bunch. Color, focus, contrast, etc., is spot on! Super job!
Flowers are like opium to me.. give me a camera and a botanical garden and I am out of control. But I have developed an eye at least for what flower pictures merit more than the usual appreciative nod. This is one. Colors are marvelous, composition outstanding and lighting.. someday I want to be able to light my photos this well. Nicely done.
Very nicely done! Your focus is spot on, great textures in the petals. Wonderful lighting. Great colors without being oversaturated. Nice composition. Only complaint is that the white border kinda competes with the subject.

Increase the brightness of this image and you will see that black background has a problem. It's not really black. On the right there is a vertical darker band that looks like that you did some burning there.
I think your monitor is set bit darker than it should be.
