This is my second choice after using the original of my first choice to edit for this challenge. Duh! Damn I was pissed.
I decided to enter this shot because I was always impressed that it came out this well taken through dirty glass using my old Fuji 4900. This was taken during the Wildlife Challenge at the zoo. The white balance was off but I was able to restore it using colors, levels and curves. a little NI and USM and here it is.

now, please bear with me. voting this challenge is extremely difficult, not just because of the size, but because we are dealing with images that people consider their best. it makes even constructive criticism hard...
i appreciate what you're attempting to deliver here, but it somehow feels off. parts of the image seem a bit over-processed (which makes it seem too 'unreal'), while other parts seem to be very rough (as if you are asking your camera to do more than it is capable of). the lighting is a tad strong. i hope you are getting some good comments and suggestions, and not being overlooked in this monster-sized challenge. maybe just consider this a starting point for the rest of the year. good luck with this and the challenges yet to come!
The subject is the only thing I don't like about this photo. Your focus and lighting are excellent and the composition is outstanding as well. I gave this a 9.
I think this would have been much more effective if you had cropped it closer, but your focal point here is very sharp and colors are great, nice shot.
It looks as if the photo has been significantly sharpened, perhaps to compensate for soft focus. This is especially apparent as a light halo under the dark green area of the leftmost leaf.
