I'll admit, I could be being overcritical because I'm a geologist, but I find this image hard to make out and not all that interesting. It needs crisper detail. I guess I feel that if you're going to take a picture of a rock, it should have enough detail that someone like me can tell what type of rock it is, and I really can't see this well enough to tell much about it at all. Not centering the darker rock in the frame would also add interest.
very interesting image you've captured here. love the lines and textures. i hope this isn't getting overlooked in this super-sized challenge, and that you are getting good feedback. i feel the centered composition takes away from the overall impact of the image, but that's just my opinion. thanks for sharing. good luck with this, and all the challenges yet to come!
Interesting centered rock. Hard to get any perspective on it. Is it a huge boulder shot from a plane, or a close up? Kinda fun trying to figure it out.
I actually like the brown, slate-like rock in the bg. It would make a nice, simple image full-frame. This rock that is the subject isn't very interesting to me and it's too centered, imo.
Interesting texures ans lines. I suppose they are interesting rocks as well. The angle is odd and I think that will cost you points - photos with a slightly tilted horison also suffer. If the viewer feels a little off balance, the phot feels umconfortable. Your composition is also too straightforward. putting the object of innterest slightly off center is more visually pleasing to humans - check out the DPC tutorial on the Rule of Thirds.
Why do you think this is THE BEST photo you took all year? What makes it so interesting to you in terms of PHOTOGRAPHY? The composition is boring, the subject is boring, the colours are boring... I just don't see anything interesting in this photo.
