The view of the Neuschwanstein Schloss from Marienbrucke is straight out of a fairy tale. The castle was named Vorderhohenschwangau (Further high land of the swan) by King Ludwig II, but was renamed to Neuschwanstein (New Swan’s Stone) after his death. Although it took 17 years to build, King Ludwig II only lived in the castle for 172 days. The castle was so impressive to Disney, it was used as a template for the design of Cinderella’s castle at Disney World.
