My first challenge with a new Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens and Manfrotto tripod! So what the Dickens was I thinking? I used this corkscrew in the Design & Engineering challenge to suggest a figure with head and arms, but it also makes a nice face upside down. ;-)
Setup: I placed a bottle of wine in a metallic purple gift bag with tassles and hung the corkscrew upside down from the cork with a rubber band. The background is a sheet of gray pearlescent paper, with natural window light reflected off pink and green fluorescent paper. I partially blocked the light to create dark "eyebrows" above the eyes.
Processing:. Shadow/Highlight filter to even out the exposure, USM, cloned out some imperfections on the "face," added a slight saturation boost, and burned in the "eyebrows" and neon green on the bottom right corner. Despite all the little tweaks, the final image is pretty close to the original.
I was torn between cropping tight to just show the face (a square), and showing more of the bottle for context. I ended up with a compromise that suggests a hat.

Shannon: what a neat and wonderful execution! The glitter and colors are indeed magnificent. Congratulations on yet another well deserved ribbon. I noticed that you took the advise from your recent and wonderful tutorial. With this award, it will rise to the top ten.
congrats on your ribbon, shannon! now you're never gonna let us forget how great that little 28-75 you've been praising is.. maybe you can sell me yours when you get tired of it ;)
alright shannon! great job with the lighting. guess it would look better with a bit more blue and a little less red, but hey, a ribbon's a ribbon! way to go!
You have taken a common subject and made it meet the challenge while making it eye catching. Great focus, interesting background texture, Great use of light, colors and composition. I would have to say one of the best I have seen thus far. Great shot 9!
Good seeing and very nice lighting. The only thing that seems out of place to me is the purple-stringed object behind the top. This should be up near the top!
Your setup and creative thinking is what sets this picture apart from all the others. Your photographic skills are also well represented by this intriguing portrayal. Great job. 10
