Sheer coincidence this happened, otherwise I didn't have an entry for this challenge.
Same day as my Free study shot, and the reason I titled this photo the way I did.
Several parts of WA experienced what was being described as a once-in-50-year storm on this day.
We had just checked into our hotel and decided to head down to the beach shortly afterwards. It was wild and woolly, and it was difficult to stay upright without being blown over. My camera lens kept fogging up, which is why the image in the FS is quite soft.
This is my husband braving the storm. We were absolutely freezing, but I was fascinated by the gigantic waves as the storm intensified. Wind gusts reached 137 km/h. We stayed for around 30 minutes before deciding to retreat to the hotel.
As we walked back, an elderly gentleman in the hallway mentioned that his hotel had lost power. We thought, "Well, this could get interesting." the poor man had tripped and fallen and had a blood stain close to one of his eyes. Later on we found out he needed stitches. 🥲
The next morning, we decided to spend the day out and about, so the blackout didn't affect us too much. We received a message advising that power was unlikely to be restored before 6:30 p.m. When 6:30 came and went, there was still no power. We had already agreed that if it wasn't back on by the following morning, we'd leave, even though we had another night booked.
At about 9 a.m. the next day, there was a knock on the door informing us that we needed to vacate. That suited us just fine—we were already planning to leave anyway!
The huge bonus was that we received a full refund for all three nights. Despite the blackout, we still managed to have a lot of fun. And talk about grit—we even had to endure cold showers. 🫣
Yeah, I know... first-world problems! 😂

One of my highest votes. Thanks for sharing the backstory! These two images would make a really lovely diptych in a scrapbook, I think. :-D |
