This little guy is called a wall crab spider. He lives in a woodpile behind our house and is only about the size of the head of a match. Wall crab spiders are completely harmless to humans, despite being ferocious night-time hunters. They don't spin webs, instead relying on speed to catch their prey. They eat mostly mosquitoes, flies and other small insects.
This is a focus stack of about 20 images.

What an excellent technique. The detail on the spider is excellent, and the shallow depth of field makes it stand out so well. I also like the soft background and the texture of the wood. Creepy in the best way. Congratulations!
That’s amazing that you were able to get 20 images of this spider stayingstill for a focus stack. I have used focus stacking for macro photography but usually on a static object and that is difficult enough!
Wonderful work. Thanks for sharing your notes, too! I have yet to try focus stacking; it just seems to require more patience than I can muster with a particular subject like this. But these spiders are indeed fascinating, and your image really shows this one off beautifully. Congrats!
