The only acceptable explanation I've ever heard for loading the roll this way came from a family of cat lovers . . . and owners. Apparently, the cats love to spin the roll and then pull all the paper off it and play with it, ruining it for use and littering the house. Honestly, if I had cats that did that and I wanted to keep them, I'd get used to "wrong way round", too.
