Coloured paper background. Beam breaker to fire two 550EX speedlights, behind glasses to backlight the glasses and splash. One glass raised to provide interest.
Post processing: crop, levels, increase saturation, USM, cloned out some spots. Cleaned up the "floor" using a layer mask - darken, flatten, add borders, resized, USM.
This took a great deal of time and effort but I learned a great deal. In the unlikely event that it does well, I will explain further some of the lessons learned.
This was a homage to two ribbons, 20998 and 9482 from Jacko and Rackat respectively

This is so cool! I like it. It looks like a painting to me unless I look at it up close. I like it really much. Just like Gatorguy said, Congrats you really deserve it!
many congratulations on the Blue, very much deserved.
Reading your notes above I would be very interested in how you set up the Beam breaker to fire two 550EX speedlights. - What components these are and how you have them rigged. I can see multiple uses for just such a setup, but have no idea where to start.
First - thank you so much for your kind words.
and before anything else - let me congratulate you on your new grandchild!
Your shot is wonderful! While I was only working on the technique, you added your creativity to it, and turned it into a really amazing image.
Well, apart from the fact that I just love any shade of orange in general, I think that your choise of colors added much more interest to the shot.
One thing I simply can no understand though... How on earth were you able to get the shot of the glasses so great, AND add the drop to it?! This takes so much work!
Your ribbon is so well deserve! :-)
You have managed to replicate and then combine two ideas to pull off a unique image that has impressed us all. Congratulations on your well earned blue. Your entry exceeded all expectations.
Deja Vu was all about past ribbon winners - so my grateful thanks to Jacko and Rackat who provided the inspiration and creativity. All credit to them.
Thank you voters and especially you commentators for such kindness, you have been a geart motivating force throughout the week!
I will write a "how did they do that" shortly because I learned so much from this exercise, some of which it may be worth sharing.
For the moment: it took 4 sessions to reach my goal, spread over two days - the bisected splash was there by design, not chance!
My daughter-in-law went into labour between sessions 2 and 3 and gave birth to our first grandchild during session 4. As she was 3,500 miles away in MD USA, I needed something to take my mind off the "what ifs" that were crowding in.
Ellie Grace Letheren was born at 9.26 am EST on Sunday 19 January - pictures here.
How I succeeded with the PS bit and the actual submission, after the news had broken, I know not!
Excellent creativity! I think you executed this one very well. Must have been difficult to get the water drop just right. I wish you had addressed the glare on the table surface. Other than that, executed to perfection.
this is very well done. I can understand why you used different colours but these colours really don't appeal to me.
Other than that, the setup is perfect.
Stunning. The splash is bisected perfectly by the color-band. This photo captures the feel of illumination very well. I'd love to see if a print of this would also be able to communicate that radiance. Wonderfully done. Congrats!
great shot ... although i am not really a fan of glasses of water and colored cardboard kind of setup ... the drop in midair makes it quite cool though
So this is Jackat? A nice, clean combination of the two originals. I would have cloned out some flaws on the left glass, but this should score very well.
It's amazing all of the things you were able to accomplish in this photo. That slight splotchiness in the orange band is the only small detraction from this absolutely outstanding shot. Really great job!
