Though i have to admit, it's a nice copy
I wish I'd seen this before I'd voted. :( It's nice, but ... I was thinking about the idea, too.
I don't usually like the chess shots, but the lighting, composition, and set up are really good on this one. Light verses darkness, good verses evil. Nice job. 8
This is an excellent concept.
But to enhance the despair the white piece is all right, but the black ones should have been more angular or agressive figures.
It's always terrible to be the one to lose a game of chess. This is a good composed photo. The background coloring is attractive and not distracting. good job!
could be my monitor: Too much contrast between the white and black. I think I would have prefered a different angle, more from behind the white, to give the black more weight in the shot.
Best of the chest comps!
might have been a little better with a slightly elevated angle...
also the lighting makes it hard to see the black pieces
high scores from me...
I like your choice of focus, the eye is drawn to the pawn in despair. And the choice of color is good too, the white one is out of hope, the black ones are its antagonizers. Nice effect with the lighting.
Extremely well shot image with what could be considered a cliche theme. There's been a few chess shots in this challenge. In my opinion, none were able to do it elegently as you. 9/10. - [added later: The more i look at your photo, the more i like it. There is so much emphasis on this white peon, I love it. Actually, the more I look, the more I think this shot is not about despair but more about courage. This looks to me as if he's defying the black army on his own. But it's just a question of personal interpretation. Great shot, really.]
Nice idea, but I can't help thinking that just to the left, the massed ranks of white are waiting to back-up the loney pawn. Perhaps you could have shown the edge of the board just behind the pawn.
