I debated with myself whether to post this because similar images usually have done very poorly. The subject of the challenge seems to invite the sincerity of one’s feelings and interpretation of despair. This picture is grotesque, emotionally upsetting, and symbolic of the reality that symbolizes an indifference in humanity. A multitude of thoughts went through my mind when I saw this dead dear carcass by the roadside. I was saddened seeing one of nature's beautiful creatures struck by a vehicle in an instant and still lay half on and half off a road built for the convenience of man and woman. We are so used to seeing dead animals killed only to be cleaned up by nature's way of providing food for its pyramid of life. I understand that for a species to survive it must obey the Darwinian rule of “survival of the fittest” and humanity's need to build roads for the advancement of our civilization. At the core of it all is an ironic genetic determinant. For life to exist it must result in death. It wasn't only for this one poor creature’s death that I felt sad. It was the thought that we have taken advantage of the earth for our own self interest without regard to all living things. Ultimately we will pay the price.
