We were so incredibly lucky to see three wolves while in Yellowstone. They're usually hard to find, and you usually see them from quite a distance. This guy was really quite close, although I'm still using a 600 mm lens and it's cropped in quite a bit.
He almost looks like a hyena to me with all of the fur sticking straight up on his back and on his neck. I was told it's because he's a youngster. We watched him for a while. He sat and he howled, although not very loud. We could barely hear him. It was more like a complaining howl. Later on he ran off to what I assumed was his mother who was quite far away. I watched and as he ran up to her, he started wagging his tail like mad. Which surprised me. I never expected wolves to wag their tail when they were happy. Then I watched as they face played. It was so amazing to see!
Thanks for the comments! I actually had a shot where he was staring right at me, which might have done better, but I loved this one. One. I like the textures and the intensity and the fur sticking up all over the place.
