Hummingbirds are very inquisitive. Especially the juveniles. They are attracted to many different colors. I have seen them looking for nectar and tiny insects in most of the flowers in my yard. They especially like red. It is getting late in the season and the adult males have already begun to migrate. The adult females will follow and the juveniles will follow last. It has been reported that only about 30% of the juveniles will survive the long migration in the eastern US across the Gulf of Mexico and into Central America where they stay for the winter. They have been known to become victims of spider webs, Praying mantis, frogs, cats, some birds, squirrels, snakes and harsh weather. They have also been confused by the reflections in windows. If you have a feeder outside your window make sure the blinds are only half open to distort the reflections.
