There wasn't any selective desaturation here Lynn, just a straight color photo. Different sections of the stairs are illuminated by lights with different color temperature, that's all.
Interesting lighting too then! I'm sure it would also look well in b/w but I'm glad to have seen the colors.

Hmm - This reminds me of another image in this challenge that was too dark while this one is an ode to set design. Did you try it in B&W? Might be more powerful.
