This was a nice surprise - I had fun putting this together, but lately haven't got the DPC-mode right and scores have been very dissapointing. I did not expect to do well with this, especially since "dogs" are not usually high scoring in dpc.
I had taught my dogs the hand stand (with support) over lock down, so this is a "new" trick and seeing the challenge I thought I could use it. I didn't get the camera angle right for an interesting picture with the dog by herself (I tried a close up from underneath her nose, but it didn't come out)
Next I wanted the table to be above the dog and the chair just somehow upside down. Even though it is a fairly light wood, and I roped in a strong man, trying to hold the table only at the edge so I could crop him out and the table over the dog didn't work (I never even got the dog into the image, it just wasn't possible).
I left the whole thing in a really bad mood and returned during the night, just playing around with the furniture, leaning it against corners and propping it up against itself. I actually had given up on the challenge and wanted to do an entry for the extensive editing challenge instead :-). And then things suddenly looked right - I knew I wanted a wide angle shot to get the feeling of this "crazy" room (the distortion of the wide angle lens contributing the the feel) I quickly called Flumi in, got her into position and shot a few pics.
The next day I looked at them and was so disappointing, because I had chopped part of her foot off in every single shot!!
I completely edited 1 picture - "artificial foot" and all for the extended challenge, but then I guess my ambition got the better of me, and I returned to the "studio". The furniture had been replaced in the meantime, and I didn't get it as nicely as the first time, but I did make sure the whole dog was in. I had a few good shots, but realized that "something" was still missing. I grabbed a cushion, got a cup full of treats and desensitized Flumi to the cushion being thrown at her.
Once she was OK with that it took me another 10 shots or so to get the timing between the throw and hitting the remote release button right (several pics with half a cushion, or no cushion and several with her eyes tightly shut :-)). This was the last one I tried.
I used quite a bit of Topaz "cartoon" to bring out the lines and again to enhance the whole "unreal/crazy" look. I also used a texture overlay.
It was fun thinking this through. Glad it did well, especially since I thought there were amazing images in this challenge.
