This was a very rare event since in 76 years I've never seen one in daylight.
While eating breakfast, looked out the back window to see two opossums, one large in the lead and a smaller one following, ambling across my back yard fence. By the time I was able to grab a camera, they had progressed across the neighbor's yard to the far corner 40 yds distant.
At this point they hesitated and the large one started up a small tree. The smaller one stopped and waited a few minutes then turned around and started back. As it crossed back onto my fence, I moved closer.
Finally it hesitated, seemingly reluctant to go further, looking back to the larger one who had not moved. I moved slowly closer and shot my entry for the challenge at about 8 feet. After these few minutes, the larger animal climbed down and started back. I waited but it was more skittish and when I moved, it disappeared behind the neighbor's fence.
When I turned back to the smaller animal, it too had disappeared.
