One Flatbed Scanner, a 40 mile drive around San Diego County to search for a suitable stuffed animal to "sacrifice", a little creativity and we have a Cat Scan.
NOTE: No real animals were hurt or abused in any way during this.

I would like to offer an apology if I have rubbed anybody the wrong way. Every winner deserves its ribbon. It is the nature of the voting. I just think people are on the wrong track here. Yes, it fits the subject perfectly and is indeed "teh funny", but nothing more.
BradP has shot some great photographs, and won well deserved ribbons, but this one is not one of them. :)
So lighten up, and take some photos, I know I will try to do that...
J.
Ok, 2nd try. I wrote quite a long post about 1 1/2 2 hrs ago but it disappeard during post. so now I copy and paste into notepad before posting.
First: congrats Brad,
you ribbon hog :)
Second: I think I can see both sides of this debate.
Like Apollo2077 and jonr said the photo is a bit "flat" If you look at it from an kinda artsy perspective you see what I mean. It's very centered (L/R and T/B), the light is flat and not interesting and the BG is featureless (almost non-existent).
BUT: for this challenge this photo is perfect - well we already knew that from the blue ribbon :) - it's to the point, easy to understand if you've ever heard of a Computed Axial Tomography scan (actually the title of your photo should be CAT scan) and the BG does not interfer with the punch line.
You post:

OK, I have some on the BG:
Make it look medical or like a hospital. Use a white (sterile looking) BG with medical props: needles, syringes, stetoscopes etc. Have some lab technicians - no not the ones CJ had doing the lab test :) - in the BG, preferably OOF unless you get DrJones to lend you a hand with models. If the scanner has a button to push, have a gloved (white latex gloves) hand pushing the button.
Of course the problem with a BG like that is that is becomes cluttered and draws attention from the main subject, so maybe the black was the best choice. BTW how did you make it so completely black?
I did not enter this challenge since I couldn't think of anything that would work. My sense of humour is more verbal (puns, one-liners, wordplay etc) but not so visual and I had problems with that. But you showed me the way: classic one-liners, just like a cartoon. So if I can visualise something that could be in The Farside then it'll probably work. (or simply photograph something out of the farside, hmm..... interesting idea).
Now I have one idea that could work, except it's about 2 weeks too late :(
Congratulations on your win Brad - that's great!, however I will have to agree with Jon in this instance. Although it is a very funny picture, I feel that it comes across a bit on the "flat" side to me. I can understand why it won, but I also feel that if you took a step back and tried to analyse the picture, you will see what Jon is talking about. I have to admit Jon may have chosen a more delicate way of putting it though!! Congrats again!
Yes, it is funny. But this is photography contest, not humour. :/
I will try in the future to buy some better equipment, like a softbox or two, reflectors, umbrellas, multiple strobes, better backdrop materials and perhaps even a better camera.
Perhaps I should have shot this on the desk with all the clutter, or yet a white background to cut back on the light/dark contrasts.
Perhaps I should have cropped this differently too. I tried to make sure it wasn't static and dead center and at least my eyes are naturally drawn to the green light which falls in the realm of thirds.
If you have suggestions, please offer them. I have no way to better my photographs without your help.
yes i has a suggestion- Offer to meet jonr at a coffee shop then HIT HIM HARD, then if u feel like it HIT HIM AGAIN.....
repeat untill u feel like he has had enough and you are happy.....Then HIT HIM FOR ME!
great shot i like it and its funny so ignor others.
Congratulations! This is way funny. I saw it during the voting (didn't vote this time), and just started laughing. Combined with the picture that came in #2, this is just great!

I was unable to vote in this challenge but "Congrats again" Brad. So funny that the top two in this round are a Cat and Mouse game both related to the Mystical Brad ;)
well deserved the blue in my opinion.. my only niggles was the fact that the tail needed to be put under a tiny bit but hey... worthy of blue.
As for jons comment - I am flabbergasted
Congratulations! (again) I am going to suggest a button with pre-defined congratulatory text called "Congratulate Brad" when leaving a comment. Now have to type it so many times ;-)
Congratulations Brad. Great idea and well worth the 40 mile drive around the town. Hope you will eventually sew the parts back together, and give this doggy a big hug for being such a brave model. Tee, hee.
Congrats again, this is my favorite this challenge but certainly even more humerous with the Red Ribbon Winner! Great Job... nice job of snagging the bait without tripping the trap:)
Thanks for the votes and all the comments.
This finish could not have been funnier - it was better than the individual pictures! Thamer: ((hug)) - you deserve it!
I had hoped it would end up with the mousetrap to the right and was even better with a Blue & Red finish!
Sorry to have duped everyone here. I desperately tried to find a cat, but none were to be found that had suitable limbs & tail. Matt BTW, will be taking up residence in my home, and will be cared for properly - LOL
Funny shot! Did you ever see //www.cat-scan.com ? I think that site is taken down. It was one of the funniest sites on the web! I miss it :) I have 5 cats, but never once got a good scan of my kiddies.
Well, if - like you say - it's a stuffed animal as opposed to a cuddly toy then you're actually quite a sicko. : )
Excellent gag by Clubjuggle too! :D
Reminds me of when I went my snowboarding acouple of years back and my dear old cat became gravely sick. I came back to a £950 vet bill!! More than twice the cost of my trip (excluding beer). The poor old fella died in my arms that weekend too. :(
congrats Mr P on a very funny shot and a job well done. i can strongly sympathise with the anguish of violently butchering a poorly, CUTE, defenceless wittle soft animal - my bunny suffered the same way for the sake of art. the guilt should be overwhelming, but when the result is as rib-tickling funny as the above, i think it's entirely justified. all you need is to find a willing old lady to make the suitable repairs to poor old matt.
Well I guess we can ribbon you for the joke, any suggestions onthe colour.?

The man, clearly agitated and not willing to accept this, demands a second opinion. The vet goes into the back room and comes out with a cat and puts the cat down next to the dog's body. The vet looks at the man and says, "I'm sorry, but the cat thinks that your dog is dead too."
The man is still unwilling to accept that his dog is dead. The vet brings in a black Labrador. The lab sniffs the body, walks from head to tail, and finally looks at the vet and barks. The vet looks at the man and says, "I'm sorry, but the lab thinks your dog is dead too."
The man, finally resigned to the diagnosis, thanks the vet and asks how much he owes. The vet answers, "$650." "$650 to tell me my dog is dead?" exclaimed the man.... "Well," the vet replies, "I would only have charged you $50 for my initial diagnosis. But with the cat scan and the lab test...
I think that there needs to be an ammendment to the rules concerning anonymity in Brad's case, I mean it's bad enough to see that Brad has won yet another ribbon without having salt rubbed into my wounds by the fact that it was my highest vote given in the contest!

Congrats on the win...but you know that was so cruel to chop up Matt. You should have given him to some toddler and waited a few hours the results would have been amazingly the same with a little dirt added for effect...lol...excellent entry.
Just to be fair to the others, you should consider working without a battery in the camera. ;-) Congrats on another feather in your cap. Yer gettin' close to a whole bird!
I didn't submit or vote, but I did peruse and literally laughed out loud when I saw this. It brightened the day of a few of my reps at work as well. SO thanks and congrats on your Blue! RoB
A stroke of genius. This is a rib buster. A very likey winner of a ribbon. Will return for final evalution and final vote. Likely ribbon. Bumping higher,
Great "first impression" impact, my choice for blue. A closer look reveals flaws (eg, tail not attached to a body!), but to little detriment. Fun & wacky photo.
Great play on words, it works so well with the black background. Well Done, the funniest one in the challenge! 10/10
Just had news that I have to have a scan for Prostate Cancer...man, I had to laugh...when I get there next week will be p***ing myself. You have made my day, can I give 11.
Very funny. It is purrrfect (forgive the pun, but hey, if anyone can appreciate a pun, you can.) The fact that the light is on inside the scanner adss a great touch. Nice shot.
:) Great idea. Really like this one.
But I just wish that some paws / claws were seen (just to make it look a bit more unpleasent than it already is) . I think it would be worth trying it again with a more realistic looking one.
I havnt laughed so much since the dog bit the minister, This has got all theingredients of a good shot, using a simple phrase and tuning it around, very slick, This has to be a ribbon entry, I would vote this a 10
A funny take on the term. Lighting looks good and I like the slight green glow too, makes it look more realistic! Hopefully no cat was harmed in the production of the image.
