Purely experimental...using an old shot to practice dodging and burning..trying to recreate the effects I used to get with an enlarger in the darkroom using the white paper as the stark contrast to the bits of picture that you allowed to develop.
I love this! Normally I don't care for pictures that have been put through extreme PS filters, but this... it really caught my interest! Either it's on a hill, or it's crooked, but either way I actually like the way the horizon is way off. Cool shot!
Thanks to all for the comments...firstly, this was only intended as an experiment and as such is far from finished or even cleaned up (as you will see from the tree tops).
The image I used is in my portfolio..(The road to nowhere)..it was selected for it`s obvious "fairy tale" feel.
I just applied my normal mix of Levels and curves adjustments to blow out the highlights and darken the shadows..then dodged and burned to bring detail back to some mid range areas and fade it from other areas.
Finally, an application of NI to soften it.
The most important factor in all of this is finding the right subject ...without it you will struggle to get the "feel".
You will notice that the original already has the "fairy tale" look.
All I have tried to do is enhance it.
Thamer.. I haven`t tried a "dark version" as I don`t think it would have the same appeal with this particular image.
WOW O_O simply amazing! My eye just doesn't want to leave the frame. I just love it, into my favs.
I love to see scenes like this in a dark mood, but you've went the opposite way and still managed to create the same mood I would feel from a dark version, just brilliant! Do you have a darker version as well?
And please share with me the steps to create this :)
That is a really cool effect. The photo seems to lend itself to this treatment very well. I love seeing what can be done to photos to change the look completely. Well done!
