It seems I entered a photo of these Hilton Riverwalk balconies a hundred years ago, but they have such a cool architectural story that I thought the challenge presented a perfect reason to reshoot them and celebrate them again. Each “boxed” balcony represents a solo, individual room, built and decorated (down to even the ash trays) offsite, then delivered to the site on a truck and stacked on top of each other. They were in a mad rush to get them done in time for the World's Fair that was in San Antonio way way wayyyy back in the day.
My favorite thing about it is the eye tricks they play on you if you look at them different ways. Like an Escher piece. And an interesting side note. I used to share an art gallery with several artists and believe it or not, these balconies were my best seller. Who would know! Not my comfort kind of art, but here’s to getting out of my comfort zone!

This was the one I entered oh-so long ago. This one does a better job of the eye-tricks, but may not have been as obviously "boxy"
