This was an oil in water experiment. I elevated a clear pyrex pan on cans set on a piece of orange construction paper. Then I collected quite a few fallen leaves from my autumn blaze maple and laid them on the paper (the paper was just to fill in any spaces there might be between the leaves). Put water in the pan, dropped oil in, stirred a bit, and shot. Kept experimenting. I was outside so I had plenty of light. The tricky part was avoiding the Pyrex brand right in the middle of the pan.
I did clean up a few very small bubbles and add an art filter when I processed. mariuca would have preferred that I leave off that step.
As for the title, the shape of the oil blob on the right reminded me of an ear so I tried to find something that had to do with hearing or listening . . . sorry, no real secret, ThingFish.
My sincere thanks to all three commenters for sharing their time and thoughts.

Now here is a fetching abstract - I wish it was more like a colorful still life, a more recognizable element. I’t like to say - this a photograph not a tempera or watercolor
