Unlike most of my other challenge entries, the vision for this photo came to me immediately. I was fortunate to be doing the photography for a stage production of "Oklahoma!" so I had access to stage props, costumed actors and in the case of the modern girl, a stage techie.
The photo was shot with a Nikon D100 and a 50mm F1.4 lens. The photo was adjusted for levels and contrast. It was sepia toned using duotone and then, using the history brush, color was restored to the "modern" girl. A final unsharp mask and I was done.

Fantastic image. Really don't know what I would do to improve it...kinda hard to improve on a first place finish. Well done and congrats on the finishing.
Oh ok only thing that I don't like is the missing foot...oh and that is getting really picky to even come up with that.
I knew this would get first place. I would have been disappointed if it hadn't. It is a terrific photo that totally captures the spirit of the challenge. I've linked this photo to just about everyone I know. A cell phone company could easily use this for an ad campaign...IMO.
This is a wonderful picture, Bill, it really earned the Blue Ribbon as it is such a cute, clever idea and turned out so well. Congratulations on your first ribbon, it is an honor for me to share the top three of this challenge with you.
Great job and congratulations! I love it when you envision a photo and are actually able to reproduce it as envisioned...I ususally fall short a bit. This would have worked very well for humor, too.
A Really great photograph here.. one of my two 10s of the challenge. (the red ribbon got the other one). If there's any indication that average scores are plummeting here on DPC, it's that this is only a 6.955.. easily deserving of a mid 7 in *my* books.
returning for comments;
I am very ompressed with this effort. A very good use of props and de-sat, however, you needed a slight decrease in hue to avoid the cherry red fingers on the hand resting over thigh. Bumping to 7 on well executed concept.
Excellent capture, that's amazing and very nice B&W/Color mixture. You must have spent a lot of time on setup well worth it and I'm sure your reaping the rewards. Great Job.
Can't work out how you did this, but assume selective desat and 2 models .. or is the sepia girl from a museum exhibit or something. I hope it is explained. Excellent shot and meets the challenge perfectly.
You have presented your idea really well here. From what they are wearing to the phones they are using, it works really well. Also, the expressions say it all. Some things change and some things never change and that's how it should be.
Excellent work.
Brilliant photograph. Great composition. The subjects' expressions complement each other well. Both subjects are animated and engaged, just like my teenage daughters when they are on the telephone. This has a very Norman Rockwell feel to it. Please take that as a compliment. When I was in college taking art classes in the early 80s everyone was bemoaning him as a lowly illustrator. I, however, believe that he captured the essence of the twentith century like no other artist. People seem to finally be coming around to that way of thinking. Your modern subject's foot moving out of the frame suggesting the future is s nice touch. I lke the simple color choices of red, white and blue - and what could be more American than jeans. Excellent work.
This one is not one that I would hang on my wall, but it is definitely the most effective illustration of the challenge, very interesting and well taken. I predict a top 5 for this one.
Very cool idea, past meets present. Love the feel ove the old half. The new seems a little soft, probably because the filtering around her. Overall i really like it. 8.
