Taken at Bethlehem Musikfest on Sunday morning. At 10:15pm the night before we had been in that large tent watching a band and had gotten soaked on our way back to the car. With all the rain we'd been having we feared that this would happen, as it had happened 4 years ago, and when we checked the news the next morning sure enough water had started rising through the manhole covers down in that area and by 4:30am the Monacacy Creek flowed over the walls along the edge of this historical preservation area.
Unfortunately the food and arts and craft vendors that occupy this area were not allowed back in that morning because of the potentially rapid rising waters (there were water rescue personnel at the ready all day along the creek Sunday just in case someone got too close and got washed away). So many of them - like the two captured here - were left to wonder if there would be anything left in their tents when they got there. The seated woman sold handmade candles and accessories and told me that they'd been told to get everything into bins the night before, but due to the hour and the curfew they were not being allowed to open the bridge allowing vehicular access to the area so all they got was what they could carry to the parking area 1/2 mile away. She had here stuff in bins and a cooler, and the cooler was visible outside her tent, open on its side, so she had no idea how much more she'd lost. Heartbreaking to say the least.
I did my best to photograph the moment but police and firefighters were preventing folks from getting to the spots where the drama could really be felt. This was one of the few breaks in the brush on the opposite side of the creek that offered a view.

This is an outstanding shot, I can see the flooding, I can feel the drama, but for some reason, it is not dramatic, even though it is. And I can see that it is. And I am not sure what is needed to make this the impactfull shot it needs to be.
