Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Black & White II (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Nikon D70
Location: Webster, NY
Date: Nov 16, 2004
Aperture: f/10
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/2 sec.
Galleries: Still Life, Floral
Date Uploaded: Nov 16, 2004

Image captured in NEF, converted using Bibble. In bibble I desaturated, then mixed the RGB channels to achieve the balance I wanted. Used medium sharpening level, no fringe reduction. Ended up a bit harsher than I'd hoped in the highlights and shadows, but I like the overall feel.

Exported a JPG from Bibble and performed final crop / scale in GIMP. No exciting editing stories, just simple photography.

The background is a blue wall painted with Sherwin Williams suede textured paint. Makes an awesome clean background, and looks great even when I'm not photographing.

Great lighting on this one. Good composition. Focus seems a tad soft, but it's a nice touch.

I am struck by the simple elegance and the graceful lines of this image. You use the entire value scale. I am a fan of contrast and like your use of upping the intensity of contrast in this image. It gives is a ethereal look. Beautiful.
