quite the contrast from the smiling Zeus with a glass of Pinot that I always envision. :)
Great shot Lynn. Very nice PP as well...can't tell if that's sunlight highlighting his face, or dodging. The fact that i can't tell is a very good thing :)
I really like it, but do not like the crop. IMO it should be cropped off the top and the left edge. too much open space, I think the man should fill the frame
returning for comments:
Great character study with lovely tones and expression. The tilted head and the squint along with corner of lips edging downward lend great strength to this image. Bumping up.
Interesting face, nice lighting and great focus - we can tell that this is man who knows something important, even without a context of what that knowledge is.
This is a great portrait! You've captured a definite mood/emotion with this shot. Alot of character which is what a good portrait is all about IMHO. Very nice lighting and good details. My only crit.... maybe just a wee bit tighter crop but that's all personal taste anyways. Wonderful Job!
I just love the way you got the "hurry up and take the damn shot!" expressioin so wonderfully heroic looking! (humor intended). Serioulsy, whoever this model is, I'll be damned if he aint known heroism first hand! EXCELLENT composition and pose. Aperture, lighting, exposure, etc. - perfect. 10.
A wonderful and expressive portrait. Without any idea who he is or what his story is, the rugged looks, the pensive expression, the hunched posture... they all speak of emotion and drama. I like this shot a lot and would love to know who he is and why he represents a hero. I would have suggested a slightly tighter crop. Nice shot.
Have I seen this extraordinary-looking man somewhere before? His expression does speak more than words. The lighting and the composition serve to enhance that. Crisp, beautiful, somehow both dramatic and understated. Although he does not fill the frame - he does! He projects a force of personality around him - and your narrow DOF helps the viewer to visualize that. My favorite so far. 10
In my judgment this is immense shot with brilliant lighting and shadows and black and white works great with this photograph. You leave me wondering where the ‘hero theme’ is sited in the photo but the photograph it self is telling me its there. I don’t know why, my best guess is you prepared such a good photograph that my interpretation is overridden by the power of the photo. 10
Great portrait, very intense eyes and great lighting. Only thing I don´t like is your crop, I would have it tighter and lose that space on the left and top but this is a strong image.
caught my attention. the other submissions were 'desperately' trying to get a "hero" image using well known characters. this one did it without even trying. your dad?
This portrait holds a lot of emotion. I can't make the hero connection with the photo and/or title, but I am guessing this is a personal choice (no deduction). The only distraction I see is the crop. I think this needed a tighter crop on the top and left which would have made the subjects face less centered. Still, excellent photo. 8.
