Wasn't planning on entering the Flowers challenge but was confronted by these today after a hike and decided they deserved to be photographed. Only you can tell me if they deserve more than that.

Wow, I'm thrilled at the finish. Thought it was something different and at the start of voting I thought it had a chance, but when it fell to 6.3 range on Saturday I figured I'd missed the front page. Just goes to show, you never know with this place.
Art, I cracked up at the radish slices because it's what I thought after I got the edges to pop in post.

As I commented during voting I thought this was a lovely image. I gave it my highest vote.
Jomari's comment "It's interesting that the leaves have the fine red border, just like the flowers" led me to share a botanical "tidbit" ... from a botanical perspective, the lovely, white, pink tinged, petal-like things that dominate the image are not flowers at all. Nor are they leaves. They are bracts. Only the small clusters in the center are flowers.
I'm curious whether you knew this, as you seem pretty knowledgeable about birds and plants etc., and decided to go ahead an submit it anyway. :-)
I planted some Korean dogwoods, which are much more disease resistant than the white dogwood, in the yard of my first home on the Cape. Seeing this reminds me to look into adding one in our yard here, especially since we have a fair amount of shade.
nam, I went back and forth about the DoF, worried more that not having the center of the flower at bottom in focus was going to be a problem. It was seriously a hit and run photo and not something where I agonized over it while taking it, but I had 3 or 4 similar shots with different things in focus and this worked the best for me. If nothing else I think I may have allowed the out of focus areas to become effected a bit too much by what I did to enhance the in-focus areas.
cutiephinphin, the green in the bottom left was very important for me because it ties in the flowers with the object that produces them. I did my best not to over emphasize it, but I felt the need to make sure the leaves of the tree were visible both there and behind the flowers. To each his or her own. :)
