 The photograph was taken during the annual Tulip Festival in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Every year thousands of tulip bulbs are sent to Ottawa by the Netherlands to thank Canada for sheltering the Dutch royal family during World War 2.

Princess Margriet of the Netherlands was born at Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1943, and during the birth the Canadian government declared the land to be extraterritorial so that Princess Margriet could be born with Dutch citizenship.

An appealing image that meets the challenge

Welcome to DPC Patrick and what a commendable start. These lovely flowers are a welcome sign of spring thus fulfilling the challenge brief. I like your shallow DOF that accurately portrays the single flower against the foreground and background of soft focus repetition of blooms, nicely and creatively done. The distant blue contrasts nicely too and the lighting highlights on the flower give it an additional glowing appeal. Thanks for your entry

This was the first in line I love the color pop and the bokeh. If I had taken this shot, I may would have shown a little more of the tulip. Still a nice shot. 8
