 A conceptual sequel to The Last Flight:


Although not as noir, a more neutral image overall. Aiming to convey a feeling of anxiety, perhaps regret; someone going home alone on the last tram; more washed out, and bleak and grey than the shadow-drowned Last Flight, and a bit more directly expressive.

This is my first time shooting with the new Sigma 50 f/1.4 Art. A pretty nice lens, very different from the Canon 50 f/1.2L in terms of the feel of the images it produces.

Editing: Channel mixer desaturation with a virtual (slightly leaky) blue filter. Selective curves to increase the contrast everywhere except the skin. Wavelet decompose, selective bilateral blur on the base detail scale image-wide, and suppression of larger details on the skin and various fabrics in the shot. Cloning out distracting specks here and there. Manual duotone using pantone cool grey 10U in the shadows and neutral grey in the highlights. Resize, selective sharpen, selective gaussian blur in a few shadow areas to smooth out fringing from the duotone conversion.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge

Even the ice queen’s pensive expression still manages to look beguiling and appealing. I don’t think this works quite as effectively as it could on a couple of issues, the main one being the bulk of that seat The strong white edge of the seat and that infuriating knob are dominating the foreground to an extent they are detracting. If I crop the foreground out on my screen with more of a square format excluding the lower half it improves the image enormously. Also, if your model had her eyes more towards the outside that would have been more in keeping with the mood of regret you are trying to convey.
