This is my first photo of a Rough-legged Hawk (Buteo lagopus). I was at the coyote kill location along Bear Lake Road and this light adult female came to join the feast. This hawk is uncommon. Colorado is near the southern limits of its winter range. Summer range is Alaska, Northern Canada and the Arctic tundra. Today's climate in RMNP was definitely arctic-like. Beautiful bird. It must have been exciting to see. I'm wondering if it would have been better to brighten your whites a bit more in the background? The red glows so much, the rest seems a bit flat... Just curious.
