Sad and dramatic, the bare feet clueing us in that this must be a warm scene and those white patches are patches of sunlight, not patches of snow as I first thought.
I was tempted to say it was over grunged/processed, but in fact this works to concentrate on this or that detail, eg what looks like a row of stitches on the sole of the right foot.
