This is a small windmill near the campsite I stay a lot, it has caught my eye quite a few times, but I was waiting for the wind direction and the mood to be right. For this spot I felt like I needed some moody clouds and a wind facing either the way it was facing now or 180 degrees the other way, since there's a nice water feature there as well.
Since this weekend the wind direction was right and the moody clouds were there as well I decided to walk to this spot, since it's only about 1KM away from the campsite (and both the bicycles had flat tires).
Also, the camera I used is the Sony Alpha 58.

Wow, glad to see this came in the top ten. I've personally often wanted to get a shot like this but there just aren't enough small intact windmills..
On to this image.Great use of thirds, lighting is perfect for the shot with the low ISO, deep dof and perfect amount of timing to get that spin on the windmill. Too much either way could result in a blown-out or too-dark blurry mess. You caught it at just the right time, and more importantly at the right time for the subject, and with a tripod handy. Yay tripods! I hope people are taking notes!
The desat works perfectly as this is a shot about form, caught beautifully. In colour I would guess that this shot is relatively drab. The stillness of the grass and reeds around the water, the slender bowing and waving stalks of the taller rushes catching the wind and finally the culmination in the perfect wheel of a windmill blurred to speed. The rigidity of the supports just adds to the impact.
Overall a lovely shot and now a fave of mine too. Keep up the good work, please keep shooting and entering!
Love this! I like the simplicity of the subject matter and the three bands of different texture. They lead the eye to the windmill...the 'star'. Great shot!
Exactly what I thought. I'm sure this shot would not've worked as well without the water.

Super, I can see the wind and the reflection is a nice touch
It was actually really hard to get the reflection, I had to get the timing JUST right and it took a lot of tries. I had a couple of photos with a better reflection, but the windmill was facing a different way. It took some time to get it right but Im happy with how everything worked out.

Well it's amazing how often it happens when you get to enter a photo of a place you've been to many times. So glad it was very well received this is 'fine art'
Thanks! And I was very excited to enter this as well. The timing of this "great" weather was very good.
