This is the highest point on Cadillac Mountain, 1529' above sea level, the highest point in Acadia National Park and the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard. It is the first place in the United States to view sunrise from October 7 through March 6. It was formed millions of years ago by the earth's tectonic and volcanic forces. It has been shaped by enormous glaciers that sheared off its top. It was named after Antoine Laumet de La Mothe Sieur de Cadillac who was the owner of over 100,000 acres of land
along the present day Maine coast.
This is the 100th anniversary of the National Park System in the United States. Hoards of people will probably visit this summit this summer. I was lucky to be there on a day that was not so busy. I find this challenge entry to be appropriate as it represents my 600th in DP Challenge.
