I have been spending WAY too much time at the computer at work the last few years. Last year, March 2015, about this time, I was browsing one of my favorite photographers website and clicked on the workshop button to see what he had coming up on the schedule. His workshops fill up quickly and I never think I have a chance at getting a spot. This time I clicked on a button named "2016 Patagonia Photo Tour". It wasn't filled up yet!! Before even reading much about the trip, I called and paid my fee to hold my spot! I was almost shaking I was so happy. Photos from Patagonia are from another world, a world so far away and hard to get to. But I was one of the members going this time and with one of my favorite photographers!
I spent the next year planning and getting things ready to go. I have never taken a trip this far from home before so I had lots to get together for the trip. What photography gear should I take?? How much gear do I need? I want to get the best images possible since I doubt I will ever be going back again. So, I decided to buy a Pentax 645Z medium format system with some lenses for the trip. I bought that gear about 8 months ahead of the trip so I would know all about using it and know exactly what to expect. The gear worked flawlessly. It's heavy, but the quality of the images is very very good.
I still have plenty of images to go through and process, but this image of Torres del Paine is one of my favorites from the trip. Patagonia is a magical place, so diverse and so wild. If it's on your list, just do it!

I never tire of looking at this photograph, Dennis. One of my all-time favorites. Knowing that you have more where that came from is fabulous. Well-deserved FS Blue.
I really like this. The stillness of the water (how lucky there was no wind!), the beautiful light, the use of the wide angle lens and the subtleties of color in the sky. Nicely done!
