I have been visiting a park every couple of weeks to watch and photograph these Burrowing Owls. At last count there are 21 nests in and around the park.
These small burrowing owls make their nests and homes in underground burrows. Unlike other owls, they are out during the day.
They are one of Florida's smallest owls averaging nine inches in height with a wingspan of 21 inches. These little owls are protected species so when they take up residence in populated areas the area is roped off and people are prohibited from approaching the nest - a 20 foot radius. I kept my distance and used my long range lens. Even with the long range lens this is still cropped down for a closer look at this little guy
