Originally it was just the three pears resting on the plate. But I came up with the idea of having them 'hover' after the first photo shoot. Since I did not have the materials I had to wait til morning (the last day of challenge) to buy bamboo skewers and white poster board that I was willing to poke holes through.
I already had a foam board which I then placed behind the white poster board. The foam board is used to stabilize the bamboo skewers once a hole has been poked through them. I measured the height I wanted each pear hover and then poked a hole through the poster board & foam board. I then used duct tape to hold each bamboo skewer firmly in place so that when I skewered each pear, it would stay in place.
So all the audience sees from a front angle is that the pears appear to be floating when in fact the bamboo skewers hidden directly behind them are holding them up. That is how this illusion is achieved. No strings, just sticks:-)
I want to thank my husband for the working title. I was going to title it, aPEARently Light but I loved his suggestion more.
These spray painted pears will also be making another appearance with being PEARed with Mondrian. I liked the way Mondrian's Apples turned out so I decided to do pears next for a matched set.
