Considering that this was a challenge prior to the spot editing rules change this is indeed a remarkable shot. It looks quite unreal - just a unique photo.
(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) This is a wonderful photograph. The absolute simplicity of the photograph is its real strength.
(2) BACKGROUND The background seems to go on forever. This vision of infinity gives the photograph a surreal feeling, almost like in a dream.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL The DOF is very good, all of the important parts are in sharp focus. You have used leading lines (the poles and wires) to lead the eye back and back and back. It seems to go on indefinately. You have also used the rule of thirds in a very creative way here, you have placed the horizon on the bottom 3rd, allowing the sky to become a very important part of the photograph. I have read the comments you received from others, and I have to agree that the one little distraction is the shadow from the pole that is not seen.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL Your post processing is good. Saturation is good. You did a very good job of keeping the snow white instead of blue.
(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE I am not sure how this is a cliche. Mpsst of us try to keep telephone poles OUT of our shots. Still a very nice pic.
(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO The subject here is wonderful. The way you executed it is great. This was one of the best of the cliche pics.
Wow, I love the way the sky/fog blends into the snow - there is really no horizon line. My only negative about this image is the shadow at the very bottom - obvisouly from the next pole. I might have included this pole and then the perspective of the shadows would also be obvious - very well done though.
Amazing photo. I though it was unusual that the telephone poles were white and then I noticed that they aren't, they're covered in snow! I love the perspective and the way they just disappear into the fog.
And the DPC winner gets two tickets to Hawaii. Man do I pity your front yard buddy. Cryogenics for brass monkeys or what. I am in love with the stark brutal bite of this shot. The fuzzy clouds and disolving poles are spectacular. Personally I would like to trash the shadow near the bottom frame to accentuate the floaty feel. Frozen drool over the poles and the wires. A totally brilliant show.
Fantastic shot! From your title, you don't seem too confident you met the challenge :) This challenge has such an open ended definition it would be nearly impossible NOT to met the challenge. I love the dream quality this gives.
A lovely shot. I like everything in it except the shadow at bottom lrft. Perhaps you should crop it away? Anyway, good colour, focus and composition. High score from me. Good luck.
cold, harsh colors and composition blending with a soothing cool tone make this photo one of my top choices this week. The simplicstic elegance is enticing and contemplative to behold. I would like to know where this is. The only thing I would have changed is the shadow of the pole closest to you that isn't visible. I find it disturbing to the eye. I would crop it out or have gone back at a time when the shadows were angled differently, perhaps to show more of the one from the first visible pole. Excellent job, 8.
This would work better in next weeks' members challenge probably. I have to give it a 9 instead of a 10 just because I don't really think of powerlines as being in the top ranks of overdone photography subjects. Very cool photo!
