In 1922 the Chicago Tribune held a competition to design the "world's most beautiful office building" for a prize of $50,000. The winner was a neo-Gothic design that combined traditional elements of a skyscraper with flying buttresses and spires. Around the base are 120 embedded stones from historical locations all around the world, including the Parthenon, the pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the Alamo, and the Great Wall of China.
