I am responstible for CC critique this week on your photo.
Photo -- the camera
I like what is done with the slower ISO speed. The photo has been is really sharp and defined. I am guessing that because of this the moisture on the man hole cover appears glossy. What a wonderful effect.
Photo -- post camera work
This is where I am not quite sure what you have done, but I do like the overall effect. Pushing the color levels strongly to the blue. Great job on colors here.
Compostion
I like the simple approach you have taken. It is a sure winner. This is proven by your higher score. The only reason that you didn't get a ribbon this will was because you chose a natural composion as appposed to arranging items in front of the camera.
In general, I prefer your approach to this competition. You only are a week or so away from getting a ribbon.
I love the photo but I don't like the cropping. I don't see any reasoning for cutting your subject in half and leaving the pavement. Rule of thirds here works against you in my opinion. Other wise it's a really nice photo with good focus and all.
This is a simple but very effective photograph. The reflection of the sky in the manhole cover matches perfecly with the colouration of the damp road/path. My only concern is with the bright edge along the top of the picture, which I find distracting - it interrupts the even tone and calm mood of the rest of the image. (I also wonder how the photo might have looked had it been cropped square; creating squares within a circle within a sqare - not a criticism by any means - just a thought - as I guess it might have made the crop too tight. A really excellent capture - well done.
Good idea. I like how the ice is melting over the bricks an the sewer cap. The squares are well defined and in good contrast with the bricks. Good job.
Nicely done, and all the better for being the only man-hole cover submitted, which I found a bit surprising given the number I saw walking home from work!
Very nice, I really like your shot. The eye of the viewer is guided immediately by the reflections to the squares on the manhole cover. Good eye to catch this! Perhaps I would have cropped a little smaller. There are some distracting objects on the top and the right side. Apart from it the composition is perfect. Good luck for the challenge...
There were quite a few boring entries this week (most of them were to me). Yours caught my attention, I think probably because of the reflections in the water. Focus looks nice and sharp and the color really gives me a feeling of a cold morning after a long rainy winter night. The composition works for me, as I like how the center of focus is not smack in the center of the frame. It’s difficult to make an interesting square picture, but I think you pulled it off. The only think I would change about it would be to drop the border. It doesn’t add anything for me, and it takes away some of the resolution that could have been used in your picture.
This is by far my favorite photo in this challenge. I am sure you will win. This shot is stunning and calming at the same time and is original and unformal in style. THe blue tone is beautiful. Congratulations! 10
