It's apparently mating time... all at once... in Lydiaville today (err... I mean TOADay. Sorry... couldn't resist).
There were NINE male toads and three female toads in my pool today. (The ladies are much larger than the gentlemen who have EXTREMELY STRONG front legs for grasping his lady for the night.)
I took the three couples, with eggs already stringing from them, out of the pool and put them in the pond where they can wrap their egg strings around plants and such as they like to do, where there won't be gross things in our pool, and where the tadpoles will have a better chance of survival.
I then took five of the six males inside, shot them for 2.5 minutes (of semi-controlled chaos... I really need to find a helper when there are this many at once... *sigh* One would hop away, I'd get it, keeping one hand on the shutter remote, put him back in place and before I could click, a different one had hopped off... I should video this, actually. That way, you'd all realize how insane I am. *sigh again*), then I let them go outside.
Don't they KNOW it's supposed to FREEZE here tonight?!? WHY are they laying eggs in weather like this? Granted, it was 68 here this afternoon, but don't animals know when cold weather is coming?
I am sure I will have people who are wondering if they are real.
They are real.
And... very hoppy. Ha!
But, charming. Eh?
Indeed.
