Alveta was my grandmother. She died on the 6th of February. At 91 you can't really say it was shocking, but it was very unexpected. I don't think she expected it either seeing she just renewed a magazine subscription for 2 more years. She lingered, then she let go. She grew up in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl. My great grandmother was always with her Brownie camera and kept track of it all. She was good too. I suppose the processing of this is an ode to that...old photographs, some hand tinted, cherished and held onto.
This was the last bunch of flowers I got for my grandmother. These were the last bunch anyone gave her. These were the last flowers she saw. These were the last flowers held close to her nose so the scent could be taken in and savored. I also gave her her last doughnut. I would have gotten her anything she wanted truth be told. If possible, there has to be some sweetness at the end to soften the hardness of it all.

Beautiful photograph to go with your beautifully told story. I am sorry for your loss. Your grandmother must have loved that you took after her mother with photography.
