One panel of the Egyptian-themed "sgraffito" friezes by Simeon Pelanc which adorn the Berkeley Public Library. The murals were covered up when the building was painted in the 1950s, and then were "discovered" and restored when it was repainted in the mid-1970s. Between late 1998 and early 2002 there was a major renovation, expansion, and modernization which has helped make it one of the most-used libraries in the area.
