Defining feature is nose, then why does the eye seem like the focus of the composition.. the eye is so much sharper than the nose, and more strategically placed as well.

Great sharpness and crisp focus. Great color. But the challenge says " Take a picture of a person's defining feature" and I don't think this is a person. If it met the challenge, it would be a 9.
