Challenge: Free Study 2014-04 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 EX APO IF HSM for Nikon
Location: Near Satara, Kruger National Park. South Africa
Date: Apr 11, 2014
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/1000s
Galleries: Humorous, Animals
Date Uploaded: Apr 30, 2014

The humble & pretty Impala (Aepyceros melampus) in the wild. A 1 year old male, playing "Count Dracula" :) in his wild and unchanged habitat - Africa.
The Kruger National "Park". Where 2,000,000 hectares (7722mi²) of African bush is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals. The Kruger is approximately the same size as Wales in the UK or Israel in the Middle East.

Outtakes: all natural colours and available light.

The sun on the right is unedited SOOC and is the African golden hour colour that painted the vultures chest.

ETA:
Sadly that single "1" vote cost me a 5th place Free Study Honourable Mention.
This lens is so sharp that only subtle editing was done; crop, mask and some Topaz Labs DeNoise5 on the background. Slight -EV, smart sharpening for web JPG, SAT, SFW.

Thank you for your much appreciated comments (and generous votes)!
Questions about gear, technique etc. also welcome.

I was shocked this did not ribbon. Fair play to the ribbon winners though - there were some fantastic entries in this Free Study. Still a great result - well done!
