When I was 4 1/2, my family (dad, mom, two younger sisters and I) moved from Arkansas to New Mexico in a 1949 Plymouth. It was a long trip from which I have two distinct memories. One is of stopping by the side of the road out in the country when I needed to go potty. Mom would open both passenger side doors and have me sit on the bottom of the door frame so I could pee into the dirt off the shoulder in privacy. The other is of wet diapers rolled up in and hanging out Mom's window so they could dry in the wind and would not stink up the car or trunk (she washed them later, of course). That's what I chose to illustrate here.
